View product specification | Download Roadmaster® product sheet (PDF) The Roadmaster® delivers significantly lower cost per tonne compared to both traditional and other velocity patching methods. The capacity of the Roadmaster® allows for a full day of operation - up to 7 tonnes per load of chips and two loads of chips per day. The Roadmaster® is built on an 18 tonne single axle Volvo Truck with an automatic transmission; is fitted with an elongated hopper to store chips and a container to store tar. It is also fitted with a hydraulically controlled articulated boom which, when not in use folds across the front of the truck for safer transport. Further Research & Development work on the Roadmaster® since 2001, with assistance from the NI Technology Centre at Queen's University Belfast, has led to significant additional output as well as improving our internal preventative maintenance programme. The company recently took part in the Enterprise Ireland R&D Awareness Initiative and are currently working with consultants IRDG to investigate further technical developments as part of an ongoing RTI project. The resultant cost savings and enhanced performance have added enormously to the appeal of the Roadmaster®. |

Where can the Roadmaster® operate Experience has shown that the Roadmaster® can operate effectively in both rural and urban situations. In urban areas where pedestrian traffic might arise before the tar has had time to break, a coat of sand can be applied to prevent sticking. Use of Velocity Patching in windy or very wet conditions is not recommended due to the danger of tar drift or splash. While a single operator may work safely in most conditions, it is recommended that a traffic control system be used in certain areas, e.g. busy urban thoroughfares, dangerous junctions, etc. Any hazard arising from loose chips can be minimized by carefully selecting the most appropriate chip size for the situation, and using the rotary brush or blower system to tidy loose chips either onto the patch or the roadside. Night work is possible by use of and extended work lamp system, which focuses light vertically downward on the work area. |
