Among the unique features on the Roadmaster® Velocity Patcher are:

Hot binder circulation system

This system allows the use of a range of binders at temperatures of up to 90°C, heated by means of an on board oil fired burner. The pump circulation system delivers this binder to conventional air operated spray jets which are deployed both horizontally for mixing purposed and vertically downward for coating surfacing. This highly reliable tried and tested system allows a spray width of up to 1 meter without risk of clogging. The durability of the Roadmaster® patch owes much to the effective use of hot binder to evenly coat the aggregate. With this system jet clogging is totally eliminated and the environmentally friendly hot water flush system works very effectively to avoid unwanted waste.

The Chip spread system (patented)

This simple system allows the operator to lay an even layer of chips over the area covered by the spray jets (approx. 1 meter). By altering the angle of the jets, the spray can be directed into the stream of chips, providing a layer of coated chips on the road surface. This layer is normally applied as the truck moves forward slowly, providing an even layer of coated or uncoated aggregate as required, without the ripple effect often associated with other repair systems. This system is ideal to seal cracked areas, raise depressions, build up broken edges, and small surface dress applications. Any loose chips are normally blown back onto the patched surface. The truck wheels provide added compaction by passing over the finished patch.

The Boom

The boom is operator controlled by means of an in-cab joystick. Boom movements are hydraulically powered with appropriate dampers and restrictors, to provide a smooth easily controlled action. In transport the Boom folds neatly across the front of the truck.

The Aggregate Hopper

The Hopper is part of a sealed system which blows the aggregate through a wire reinforced pipe system to the mixing chamber on the front of the Boom. The hopper has twin outlets, allowing the use of two sizes of aggregate if desired, or alternatively a layer of dry sand can be blown onto the patched surface (urban work). There are no conveyors or augers in the system, reducing downtime and resultant costs. Hopper capacity is 185 cubic feet with equals to about 7 tons, and an output of two fills per day (14 tons) is easily achievable.

The Aggregate Hopper

Loading the Hopper is normally carried out by means of a loading shovel or J.C.B. However, should this facility not be readily available the Roadmaster® can be specified with a Hiab type crane with clamshell, which allows the machine to operate completely independently of other services.

The Tar Tank

The 1800 Litre insulated tar tank is heated by means of a diesel fired automatic burner. A water tank within the tar tank provides hot water for flushing.
