Archway Roadmaster UK Ltd. (ARUK) is a UK registered company which provides the hire of the Roadmaster® Patcher and Roadmaster® Operators for contracts of various duration to local authorities and term maintenance contractors throughout the UK.  ARUK is part of a group of companies and works very closely with its sister company, Archway Products Ltd. (APL), which was established in 1990 and is based in Ireland.

Archway Roadmaster UK Ltd. are seeking to hire Roadmaster® Operator/ Drivers to join our team. 

Role Description

The Roadmaster™ Patcher Machine is a self-contained unit carrying bitumen emulsion and aggregate (stone chips). The Operator/ Driver, working from the cab of the truck, controls the delivery of a mix of bitumen emulsion and stone chips to the repair area. This delivers a speedy and long-lasting repair to the damaged area. However, this requires using skill and judgement so on-job-training will be provided before a successful candidate can work alone.

Our customers are primarily local authorities throughout England, Scotland and Wales so you must have the flexibility to work away from home on a regular basis.  The nature of the work requires the operator/driver to have a high level of self-motivation and be able to work alone and also as a part of a team.  This work will require you to stay away overnight for periods of up to two weeks at a time, so may only get home every second weekend.

 This role reports to the Operations Manager and due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate will work in close cooperation with the Local Authority road engineers. The role will consist of operating the Roadmaster™ Patcher Machine to carry out road maintenance and surface patching on client sites. This requires the ability to report work using a tablet or smart phone, so good IT skills are necessary. 

Successful candidates will be required to be presentable at all times and have an ability to interact well with members of the public, work colleagues and customers. All operators must pass a Safety Critical Medical and random drug & alcohol testing may be carried out during your employment by the Company or by our customers. 

Requirements of the role

The successful candidate should have:

  • A full clean Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence, Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) & Digi Tachograph
  • A minimum of 2 years’ driving experience is required
  • CPCS Telescopic Handler Card desired
  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Road-building would be an advantage
  • Experience using plant/ construction machinery is required. A background in excavator use would be an advantage.
  • Possession of a keen eye for level surfaces and irregularities would be helpful
  • Previous experience in the use of road repair materials, highway maintenance and Local Authority procedures would be an advantage
  • Mechanical ability would be an advantage to facilitate minor servicing tasks and repairs on the machine
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written is required
  • Must be able to use a tablet and a smart phone, and email as work is reported using various apps’ etc.
  • Good organisational skills to keep paperwork in order
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Be a team player and also be comfortable working independently
  • Have initiative and demonstrate a flexible “can-do” approach to work
  • Must be able to follow directions and abide by all Health & Safety regulations
  • Must be eligible to live & work in the UK
  • Must have a current valid passport or be willing to obtain one

Successful operators will be provided with the necessary smart phone and/or tablet plus a company vehicle and fuel card(s) in order to carry out your scheduled work. (Benefit-in-kind will apply in line with HMRC regulations.)
